Aside from remodeling in general being a grueling task, remodeling your kitchen and trying to add more space where there just isn’t any left is a common problem.

You can always add storage space by building cabinets up, but what about counter space?

Let’s take a look at ways you can add counter space in really small kitchens:

  1. Add a cutting board.
A simple method is to get a large cutting board in place of a counter. Preferably one that fits over your sink or cook top. This adds a little extra space without compromising any other space.

  2. Add appliance storage.
If you have a toaster or mixer that is always out on your countertop, have your professional add a cabinet that it can fit into. That way, it doesn’t have to be out all the time taking up space.

Another space saver is putting your microwave above the stove. Not only does that save space but you will find it very functional when it comes to cooking.

  3. A fold-down surface.
A fold-down surface is a great way to add more space. Whether a countertop or cutting board, adding one of these in an area such as under your window will come in handy.

  4. Add a pull-out surface.
Don’t like the fold-down? Add a pull-out surface! This is another feature that your cabinet professional can add to your plans.

Once you’re done using it, you just slide it back into place. Plus, it takes up minimal space from the cabinets below.

  5. Use wall space.
Are you utilizing your wall space? Just like the toaster or mixer, think of ways to move appliances up and out of the way.

Adding more shelf space and utilizing your cabinets differently can make all of the difference!
